Owlett Named to 3 House Committees

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - June 12, 2018

HARRISBURG – Rep. Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford/Potter) was named to three standing committees within the Pennsylvania House of Representatives this week. They are the Insurance, Human Services and Liquor Control committees.

“I appreciate the variety of committees I have been assigned to and am excited to get started,” said Owlett. “These committee assignments will give me the opportunity to delve further into various issues and help shape them before they go to the full House for a vote.”

Within the legislative process, the committees are where all bills are first sent and reviewed. During the committee process, amendments can be offered, discussions on the bills take place and sometimes public or informational hearings are held to gather more information on a legislative issue before a vote is taken on whether or not to advance a bill for a vote before the full House.

The House Insurance Committee deals with issues pertaining to auto and health insurance, insurance fraud, mental health parity, etc.

“As a small business owner, I am very familiar with the importance of fair and affordable insurance for individuals and their families,” said Owlett. “I look forward to bringing my perspective to the table.”

The Human Services Committee has oversight of issues within the Department of Human Services and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs.

“With the opioid epidemic hitting rural areas especially hard, it is an issue I consider one of my top priorities,” said Owlett. “This committee, in particular, has done a lot of work on legislation to address the opioid crisis in the Commonwealth, so I am very pleased to have been given this assignment.”

The Liquor Control Committee deals with the regulations surrounding liquor distribution and consumption in Pennsylvania.

“With the recent expansion of alcohol distribution in the state, we need to have sensible regulations and safeguards in place, and I am happy to lend my voice to the conversations taking place on this issue,” said Owlett.
