Operation: Goodies!

MU Students to host event for Goodies for Our Troops

by Taylor Stupski - April 9, 2015

Members of the Mansfield University (MU) Public Relations Workshop course will be hosting Operation Goodies to benefit the local nonprofit organization Goodies For Our Troops. The event will be held TODAY from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Decker Gymnasium on Mansfield University’s campus.

The event will feature a BBQ. Food will be available for $2 a plate and will include hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, cookies, salad, water, and soda. All profits made from food sales will go directly to Goodies For Our Troops.

Goodies For Our Troops is a local non-profit organization based out of Wellsboro. The organization collects donations and sends care packages to troops that are from Tioga County and the Twin Tiers, who are currently serving overseas. Funds raised from the event will be used to purchase shipping materials, needed items for troops, and cover shipping costs.

“I started this organization to give people an opportunity to show our troops how much folks back home appreciate their selfless, brave 24/7 sacrifices for the rest of us and our freedom. They can surely feel the gratitude that’s in each care package,” said Dawn Pletcher, founder of Goodies For Our Troops.

A collection box will be available for any physical donations such as nonperishable goods and male and female hygiene products. Any donated items will be sent directly to serving troops from the Twin Tiers area.

There will be a hot dog eating contest at 5 p.m. and there will be a pie eating contest at 6 p.m. Entry into the contests will be $3. Winners of both contests will receive prizes.

WNTE “The Giant” will be DJing the entire event. Cornhole and other games & activities will be available to play.

The event is open to the Mansfield University community and local community. Students are highly encouraged to come!

The event is sponsored by local businesses.

In the event of rain, the event will be held in Decker Gymnasium on the same day and time.
