NP-Mansfield falls to Montoursville

by Ed Weaver - August 26, 2019

North Penn-Mansfield suffered a season-opening, 49-17, loss to the Montoursville Warriors at Island Park on Friday, August 23. Montoursville hit pay dirt early on in the contest with Rocco Pulizzi scoring from 15 yards out to go up 7-0 early.

The host Panthers would answer back on the next drive. Colton Litzelman connected with Logan Tokarz on a huge pass down the sidelines down to the Montoursville 1-yard line, then Bryan Bogaczyk punched it across the goal line for the score. Kevin Alexander converted the extra point and tied the game up at 7-all with 9:05 remaining.

That would be the last time the Panthers would score until late in the game as the Warriors rattled off 35 unanswered points.

Montoursville scored twice before the 1st quarter came to a close on passes by Hunter Shearer. The first went to Cologero Signor and the second to Jaxon Dalena and the Warriors led 21-7 after the first 12 minutes.

In the 2nd quarter Montoursville’s Dylan Moll returned a punt 73 yards for a score, Logan Ott scored from short distance, and Signor found the end zone a second time, this one on the ground, to take a 42-7 lead at halftime.

The Panthers ended their scoring drought midway through the third quarter on an Alexander field goal then later scored in the 4th quarter as Litzelman connected with Brandon Thompson to cut the score to 42-17.

Montoursville added a late touchdown to bring the final score to 49-17.

The loss starts off the Panthers at 0-1 before they hit the road next week to take on NTL Large School opponent Athens.
