New Location Found For Goodies For Our Troops

New Location Found For Goodies For Our Troops

by Lauren Gooch - February 5, 2021

Goodies for our Troops is a 501c(3) organization that sends year-round care packages to our troops. Since July 2005, they have been continuing with this mission as a 100% volunteer-based organization. Currently, they are operating out of the lower level of 87 Main Street in Wellsboro, but by March 27th, they will have a new location!

The First Presbyterian Church at 130 Main Street in Wellsboro, has been kind enough to allow them to move into their Lower Meeting Room. It’s a very nice finished basement room (about the same size as their current room) with lots of pegboard and some cabinets. It has baseboard heat, an up-to-date bathroom with a very nice sink with a cabinet, a storage room, and an available social hall and front yard for yard sales.

Dawn Pletcher, the founder, comes from a long line of military families, and is so grateful for the opportunity to continue her mission. She says, “The church just couldn’t be nicer and kinder to us! They’re taking out the current fluorescent lighting and putting in all new LED lighting, and they’re replacing the back door that we’ll be using as our entrance.”

To help make it easier for people to access, there will be free parking and only six steps to go down.

All CDC, Pennsylvania Department of Health, and Tioga County COVID-19 Task Force guidelines will continue to be followed. Temperatures will be taken at the back entrance, masks will be required, social distancing will be enforced, and sessions will be limited to ten people at a time.

The plan is to start moving some things over within the next few weeks, and then move the bigger things on March 20th, weather permitting (March 27th if needed). The Rotary Club and Wellsboro Lions Club will be bringing trucks and helping with the move. It will take a week to get it all placed and sorted out, so if anyone can help with that as well as with the moving, it will be very much appreciated! Call 570-662-5601 or email goodies@ptd.net if you are able to help.

Dawn credits God for everything falling so perfectly into place. “Finally, prayers were answered! God wants us to continue our mission, and we have a new home,” Dawn happily said. She shared a heartfelt message from her son in California who said, “That’s great that it’s in a church, Ma! God’s letting you all know that He wants you to continue doing what you do for heroes!”

Thank you so much to our community for all your support to continue this mission to put smiles on our heroes’ faces!
