MU Today – The North Hall Rises

by John Vogt - May 15, 2015

MU Today is produced for Wellsboro Home Page by Mansfield University. On today’s feature, Dr. Larry Nesbit, former Director of North Hall Library talks about North Hall. Mr. Nesbit recalls when the inside of North Hall was a worn and tired building.

But MU administration, students and professors longed for a building that would reflect the rebirth of the campus and a symbol of academic vitality. The building is comprised of 118,000 square feet. The renewal project became a massive undertaking that carefully merged functionality with beautiful aesthetics.

The interior of the building was re-designed with electronic information becoming one of the main focal points of the new library facility. The MU library became the very first university library in the USA where every seat was wired for computer access. Those improvements and forward thinking became the springboard into the wireless era.

The finishing touches of the new North Hall included a holistic look with custom made furniture made of beautiful cherry wood with stunning brass accents. The wall coverings, carpet, and windows with their natural light make the North Hall a very pleasant place to be. Eighteen years later, North Hall is still one of the most functional and beautiful places on the MU campus.

We hope that our Wellsboro Home Page viewers will truly enjoy this special look at North Hall on MU Today.
