This is the story of Wellsboro Home Page.
John and Sara Vogt spent 25 years in Washington, D.C. in the radio industry before relocating to Wellsboro, PA in 2004. While in D.C., John had his first experience working in new media when his station became one of the first in the United States to broadcast online. John knew from the beginning that the internet was a game-changer for broadcast media. This forward thinking was the first seed of Wellsboro Home Page.
The idea for Wellsboro Home Page actually came about back in the mid-2000s. Unfortunately, the internet connection at the time was not strong enough to support this big idea, so it had to be put on the back burner. It wasn’t until years later that technology caught up to the concept and Wellsboro Home Page could really get started.
One of the biggest challenges in the beginning was ensuring everything looked right on camera for this new media experience. After lots of tweaking, retooling, and reworking, the set and lights for the studio were complete. The next step was finding the right people.
Andrew Moore, Home Page’s Director of Video Production, first met John through a mutual friend. Andrew met with Mr. Vogt, who laid out his vision for Wellsboro Home Page. Andrew, who has been producing video since his teenage years, thought the idea sounded great and jumped right in. That was just the first step. Since then, people of all ages and backgrounds have stepped in as contributors to this new media experience. Many have regular segments on the website, while others cover a variety of stories around the Tioga County area.
The impact was immediate. Wellsboro Home Page amassed thousands of page views within the first month of launching, and has since become a staple in the Wellsboro and Tioga County communities. With videos covering everything from high school sports to quilting and glass blowing, as well as events like the Laurel Festival and Dickens of a Christmas, they have fulfilled their slogan: It’s all right here on Wellsboro Home Page! Since launching two years ago, Wellsboro Home Page has time and again fulfilled its mission to serve our community with a quality product, accentuating the coverage of positive events while giving people a voice.
