Movin’ Together – Your Best Shoe Forward

by Home Page Staff - July 25, 2018

They say you should never judge someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes. You better hope they are the right fit, or you will be in for a painful walk!

In our day-to-day lives, shoes may seem like a simple commodity, but they are foundational to our health.

Today, the Movin’ Together team met with Nancy Brooks, owner of In My Shoes store in Wellsboro, and discovered how important it is to choose the right shoe. In this video broadcast, Nancy helped Sara, Lauren and Julianna step into shoes best for their feet.

“Our feet are the foundation,” says Nancy. “Having that proper foundation affects your whole body. It affects your knees, your hips, and your back. Every part of your body can be affected by the proper shoe.”

Consequently, choosing the right shoe for the right activity is also important. In today’s video feature, Nancy demonstrates a variety of shoe types for different outdoor activities. This information helps us to be sure footed when enjoying our adventures with family and friends while biking or hiking at the PA Grand Canyon this summer and fall.

The pronation and supination of your foot is another factor to consider when picking out a pair of shoes. Lauren learned this first hand as she discovered her feet are overpronated. Everyone’s feet fall within a range of pronation and supination. Pronation is how much your feet naturally turn in, while supination is how much they turn out. Overpronation and oversupination aren’t always painful early on, but can lead to other problems and become painful later in life. Nancy helped Lauren address this issue with orthotic shoe inserts. Thankfully, after wearing the inserts Lauren has seen relief from the pain that was previously felt in her heel and arch areas.

Children as well as adults need the proper fit for their feet. A quality shoe, when they’re growing and need that support, is huge,” says Nancy. “The same as it is for us. Their little bodies are built the same way as ours. They can have the same aches and pains by not having the right fit or shoe.”

Set the foundation for your health with your best foot forward…in the right shoe!

Keep an eye open for a special post on Facebook. We will be giving away three packages to support our feet! Two packages include three pairs of the multi-sport Asics women’s fast drying socks and a foot rubs massage ball. One package includes a $75 gift certificate for In My Shoes, along with a pair of Asics socks. The winner of the gift certificate must go into the store to redeem it.

Next time on Movin’ Together, Digest This – Salad Up, with our special guest, Lori Beckwith of The Main Street Olive Oil Company.
