Movin’ Together 2018 – Time Out!

by Amiee Jones - April 27, 2018

Scheduling regular times for self-care is a key part of a healthy lifestyle. This is why the Movin’ Together tool for the month of April is called “Time Out, Stress Less!” There are many ways to take a time out. Exploring hobbies, interests, and quiet time activities can significantly enrich our lives. In this feature we focus on taking time out for self-care, specifically in the form of hair care. Sara visited Courtney Killian at her “Charisma by Courtney” salon, in Troy, to find out more about proper hair care.

We’ve all had those appointments in the past that were riddled with miscommunication and error. We thought that we were explaining our vision clearly, and realize after just a few snips that the picture we have in mind is very different then our hair stylist’s understanding, and the reality turns into a disappointing surprise! Courtney mentioned some tips for avoiding this upsetting situation in the future. Be sure that you and your stylist are on the same page by thoroughly discussing and visualizing the results before the scissors ever come out. Courtney shared that she prefers to sit her clients down, and actually show the amount that will be coming off, just to be sure that she understands them correctly. A thorough description and demonstration of the changes you have in mind will save you from potential frustration, and ensure that this is indeed a time of refreshing and less stress.

Courtney‘s process throughout Sara‘s visit included shampoo, conditioner, and products that would help to strengthen replenish and protect her hair from heat during styling. Then she finished the look with a light mist of quality hairspray that helps to set the curls, without feeling too sticky. (*You can find the products from Sara’s particular visit, below.) The real star of this appointment, however, was a new brush that Courtney says everyone who sits in her chair is raving about. The Wet Brush Pro has a bristle technology that is incredibly effective at sliding through wet or dry hair. Courtney advises to start at the ends of your hair when brushing, however she finds that tangles are not a problem for this miracle brush!

Are you ready to take a time out? We encourage you to find daily times of peace. Intentional moments to breathe, listen to peaceful music, take a bath, read, or whatever it is that will reduce stress and increase peace. Stress can pop up in nasty ways in our health! Taking time to remain grounded and calm Will greatly help your well-being! To help us all value our “Time Out’s” more, Movin Together is offering some relaxing opportunities this month! In order to secure one of these gifts, email the name of the new brush that was mentioned in this feature to sara@thehomepagenetwork.com.
The gifts include the new brush with product, a cut and style at Charisma, and an overnight stay in a suite at the Pen Wells Lodge!

Next time on Movin’ Together, we’ll go on a “Rail Trail Adventure” with Linda Stager, and talk about power snacks we can take on the go. Thanks for joining us for moving together!
