Mounties Score Six Pins To Beat Wellsboro, 46-30

North Penn-Liberty won eight bouts to defeat rival Wellsboro 46-30 on Tuesday, December 20.

The Hornets jumped out to an early 12-0 lead on back-to-back pins by sophomores Silas Mickey (5:33) at 152 lbs. and Jacob Dean (3:28) at 160 lbs. Liberty’s Easton Cleveland-Pequignot cut the lead in half with a 42 second pin fall over sophomore Evan Ingerick at 172 lbs before sophomore Ryder Bowen extended the lead back to 12 (18-6) with a forfeit win at 189 lbs.

North Penn-Liberty scored back-to-back pins in the heavy weights, as George Valentine pinned senior Wyatt Gastrock at 215 lbs., and Gaven Roe pinned freshman Hayden Stevens at 285 lbs. to tie the match at 18-all.

Charles Aumick won by forfeit at 107 lbs. to give the Mounties the lead at 24-18 and a pin by Brayden Pequignot at 114 lbs. over sophomore Alec Magli made it 30-18 before freshman Gavyn Jelliff scored a forfeit at 121 lbs. to cut the lead back to 30-24.

The Mounties then took the next three matches. Riley Oaks won at 127 lbs. over freshman Mason Nowak, Trinity Robinson was victorious at 133 lbs. against sophomore George Howlett, and Brock Smith won a 17-6 major decision at 139 lbs. against senior Aden Tom to increase the lead the 46-24.

In the final match of the evening, sophomore Will Gastrock pinned Ryan Roupp in 2:34 at 145 lbs.

The loss drops the Hornets to 1-3 (1-2 NTL) while the Mounties improve to 2-0 (2-0 NTL). Wellsboro is back in action at Athens on Thursday while the Mounties are off until December 27-28 when they’ll compete at the Jim Thorpe Christmas Tournament.
