Mounties roll to 63-42 win over CV

by Ed Weaver - February 6, 2019

A 23-point first quarter led the North Penn-Liberty Mounties past Cowanesque Valley 63-42 in NTL Small School Division boys basketball on Tuesday, February 5.

“We used good pressure defense and turned that into transition baskets in the first half and held onto seal a big win,” Liberty head coach Brian Litzelman said. “The defensive intensity led to many lay-ups for Duncan.”

CV outscored Liberty 12-11 in the second quarter to cut the lead to 34-18 at halftime but the Mounties regrouped in the third and held the Indians to just 5 points to open the lead back up to 49-23. CV again made a big run in the fourth quarter but trailed by too much to get back in the game.

Zeafla led all scorers with 23 points, Logan Horsley had 10, and Noah Spencer finished with 9 to lead the Mounties. Christian Kemp led the Indians with 13, Owen Fitzwater had 10, and Tyler Vargeson added 9.

The win improves the Mounties to 12-6 overall and 8-6 in the Small School Division. The team is on the road on Thursday at Northeast Bradford.
