Montoursville Warriors top Wellsboro Hornets, 64-46

by Wyatt Wood - December 5, 2023

High school sports are back in action as the Wellsboro Hornets basketball team fell to the Montoursville Warriors 64 – 46 on Monday, December 5.

Quinn Ranck started the game off with a beautiful 3 point shot, giving the Warriors an early start. Later in the quarter Caden Smith put up Wellsboro’s first points of the game as he made a move into the top of the key for the layup. The first quarter ended with the Warriors in the lead, 14-8.

In the second quarter – Smith to Marek Masscho, who found Hayes Campbell in the post. Campbell powered it up and in. Later, Smith wrestled down a ball and Campbell sunk his foul shots. The Warriors put up 22 more points to Wellsboro’s 9 to end the half: 36-17.

Next in the third – full court play, Smith received the ball and instantly found Ian Hoose down the court and he drove it in. Then a huge rebound was caught by Masco who sent it in through traffic. A few minutes later Campbell saw a lane, hit it and drove to the basket. Mountoursville responded with their own drive and rebound.

With 2:34 seconds left in the third, Mascho read the play and snagged the ball from the Warriors’ – breaking away and scoring. After that, Campbell brought the ball up the court, fed it to Smith, who found Luke Rothermel in the post. Time ticking down under a minute in the third, Campell found Mitchel Lechler for the layup. To end the quarter Smith put up a foul shot that narrowed the gap to a 10 point difference, 47-37.

In the fourth Rothermel sunk a big three pointer and Campbell smashed his way through traffic. But the Warriors wouldn’t budge and kept making their way down the court, finishing the game off 64-46.

The Wellsboro Hornets will be back on the court in Williamson on Wednesday, December 6th.
