Memories For A Lifetime
I still remember the wonder of the moment the first time my grandchild was placed in my arms to hold. Now I love my children with all my heart but this was yet a deeper feeling of love. It is hard to put into words how overcome I was just looking into his face. I wanted to study him so he and I would have a connection to last a lifetime. I am not the parent, I am the grandparent and while grandparenting we are nurturing the next generation.
My grandchildren do not live near me so I wanted to connect with them on a regular basis. I had this idea of purchasing them a gift for each week to open. It is not the expense of the toy but the thought behind the gifts that matters to them and me. Our son makes a video of them opening the gits so I can see their reactions. Before purchasing the gifts I do some research to find out their new interests or experiences. One time I sent them a toy bubble machine and then watched the video of them chasing the bubbles through their yard!
As they grow older we are now swimming, biking and hiking together. I really appreciate that they have different personalities as they mature into adulthood. In our conversations we listen and value what the other person is saying, building trust as the basis for our relationships.
