The Max Colegrove Citizen of the Year award has been given to a Mansfield resident since 1987. Deb Bastian was nominated and chosen by the Mansfield Chamber to be this year’s recipient.

This award is primarily based on the volunteer work that someone has been doing in the community. This award follows in the footsteps of Max Colegrove and the legacy he left his community. Max was an active member of the United Methodist Church and many other organizations. For many years he served as president of the Mansfield Borough Council. He was also a Chamber of Commerce and the Mansfield Kiwanis Club member. While the owner of the Pennysaver, he had many opportunities to greet and meet others in the community.

Irene Morgan of Partners sent in Deb’s application to be considered to win the award. This award means a lot to Deb as she feels humbled and blessed to win this honor. Like Max, Deb has also done a lot of volunteer work over the years for the community, and she believes it is vital to encourage others to volunteer. She said that children can learn at a young age the importance of volunteering. The following list shows us her devotion to helping others in their different situations in the community:
