A week of Mansfield Home Page feature highlights!

by Home Page Staff - June 17-18, 2017

Happy Father’s Day Weekend! It’s time once again to take a look at what happened the past week. The Weekly Highlights are a great way to catch up, but don’t forget that you can always watch the full stories from either our front page or the archives section.

The Rattlesnake Round-Up!
On June 10th and 11th, the 62nd Annual Rattlesnake Round-up was held and sponsored by the Morris Fire Company and Ambulance Association. Home Page correspondent Sara Vogt attended the event and spoke with a variety of individuals about the history and purpose of the Morris Rattlesnake Round-up. She begins her journey of discovery with Chad Lauer, Waterways Conservation Officer for the Northcentral Region of Pennsylvania. (Sara had met Chad on the Pine Creek Rail Trail recently while on a shoot for Movin’ Together. At that time, she had never seen a rattlesnake, but had expressed to Chad her desire to see one in captivity for her first experience. Hence her journey to Morris for the annual round-up.)

Emergency 101 – School Bus Accident Drill
On Monday, June 5th, 2017, the Tioga County Emergency Management Agency facilitated a School Bus Collision Simulation Drill in Farmington Township followed by a mass casualty simulation at the UPMC Soldiers and Sailors Hospital in Wellsboro. With participants from the Northern Tioga School District, Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, the District Attorney’s Office, Tioga County Fire Police, and various local EMS, Fire, and Law Enforcement agencies, the drill was largely viewed as a successful opportunity for training in Tioga County.

Chamber Highlights – Summer in Mansfield!
Mansfield’s summer schedule is HOT, HOT, HOT! Chamber of Commerce Rep, Dawn Hull, shared some of the events we have to look forward to in the coming weeks. Of course, the 4th of July celebration is fast approaching. This shindig includes a parade, fireworks, and lots of live music!

Also bringing some excitement to summertime, the Classic Car Cruise-ins are back! Check out these vintage rides every Thursday night in the First Citizens Bank parking lot, and enjoy a hotdog while you’re at it. Then, closing out the summer, a brand new event will be taking place! A Heritage Festival, complete with historic costumes and displays will provide a fascinating account of the history and transformation of Mansfield, going over a century back in time.

Laurel Festival – The Sounds of Summer!
Although Laurel Festival activities have already begun, this past Wednesday was The “Almost World Famous” Wellsboro Town Band’s first seasonal concert on the Wellsboro Green. This concert marked the first, of a four concert series over the summer, with the last three performances happening every other Wednesday (June 28th, July 12th, and July 26th). They opened up with the National Anthem, followed by The Pledge of Allegiance. From there, symphonic melodies filled the air with some familiar tunes, like music from Pirates of the Caribbean. The concert was a great tribute to the community.

Laurel Festival – A Royal Occasion!
Each June, as the garlands of mountain laurel bloom throughout our woodlands, Wellsboro celebrates with a variety of special events, not the least of which is the annual crowning of the Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen. The tradition of crowning a queen goes back to 1938 and continues to this day with 28 young women who represent their schools and communities in the event that honors the gifts and talents of each, and encourages them to impact the future.
