Mansfield Area Food Pantry Remembers Volunteers

Mansfield Area Food Pantry Remembers Volunteers

by Deb Bastian - August 16, 2022

MANSFIELD, PA – Wednesday, July 27th, the Mansfield Food Pantry Board of Directors, former volunteers and current volunteers honored four deceased volunteers by placing two plaques on the food pantry trailer. Fittingly, following a busy day of servicing nearly 100 households, the group of approximately twenty remembered four volunteers who have passed away, Margaret Bentley, Fred Davis, Rose Benson and Chris Gilbert.

Board of Directors President, Mary Farrer, lead the event by explaining what each of the four volunteers had done for the Mansfield Food Pantry. Margaret Bentley, one of the very first volunteers, started by personally taking food to families in the area. Fred Davis, President of the Board of Directors for many years, was remembered for his quick and to-the-point meetings and his many years of serving. Barbara McConnell, past secretary of the Board of Directors, read a few words about Fred Davis and his commitment to the community and the Food Pantry. Rose Benson was remembered as having a heart of gold and serving as treasurer for the Board of Directors. Chris Gilbert was remembered as one who worked unceasingly for every pantry in the area.

After the plaques were installed at the entrance to the food trailer, former volunteers toured the Food Pantry including a large storage building donated by the Mansfield United Methodist Church.

The Mansfield Area Food Pantry always welcomes volunteers. If you are interested in learning about how you can help, please call Deb Bastian at 570-916-4647.
