Looking Back At Laurel Festival

by John Vogt - June 19-21, 2020

The 79th annual Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival for 2020 has been canceled, due to COVID-19. The Laurel Festival began in 1938, and has been a summer highlight in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, drawing thousands of people to our area. The Laurel Festival has run consistently every year, except between 1942 and 1945 because of World War II. Until the current war on COVID-19, the Laurel Festival has not been missed for 75 straight years.

Today, on The Home Page Network, we want to take a few moments to thank God and all the incredible people who make this event happen, and for the wonderful memories. The Laurel Festival receives no state funding. The cost for the Laurel Festival is covered by organizations like Wellsboro Rotary, UPMC, Laurel Health Centers, C&N, First Citizens Community Bank, and many, many others – all pulling together to make it happen. The work for putting the event together is handled by community volunteers. The Laurel Festival is presented each year by The Wellsboro Foundation and is administered by the Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce. Big thanks to Julie Vaness and all her staff for the wonderful memories.

The Home Page Network has been covering the event since our beginnings in 2014. Join us as we open the Vault of Treasured Broadcasts to view this footage. Watch closely – you may even see yourself in these special memories!
