Local Counties To Hold 19th Annual Maple Weekend
This weekend, March 18-19 is the 19th annual Maple weekend in Potter and Tioga counties! It’s a time for you to not only learn about Pennsylvania maple syrup production, but also be part of the experience all while sampling some of your favorite maple products. Many of the locations offer food items like chili, soup and some even offer pancakes with, you guessed it, Pennsylvania maple syrup!
While there are other states more widely know for their maple syrup production, Pennsylvania is unique in that the many contributors are small family farms, rather than big corporations. Ranging in the hundreds of taps, down to only a few, the tradition of tapping maple trees is kept alive as families work within their communities. Many, like the Butler family, do not rely on maple syrup production as their main source of income. Jennifer Butler, a teacher, and her husband Jody Butler, a beef farmer, started producing out of love for the tradition and history. Check out their story and list of products at butlermaple.com.
Maple weekend isn’t just about the sweet treats these local farmers have to offer; it’s an interactive, educational maple experience that brings people together. There are 23 participating sugarhouses in Potter & Tioga counties for you to tour. Visit the website pamaple.com to see a complete list of participating farms. You can also download your brochure and plan your trip. Come to Maple Weekend!
