Local Artist Spotlight: Ron Gennaro Bianco
From a high school drop-out, to having a chemical engineering degree, Ron Gennaro Bianco is certainly a man with a story. Ron would later in life leave his corporate job in pursuit of his hidden passions as a musician and artist. His passion for music had an early start: performing for his mother’s friends at the young age of five. He joined a band in high school and from there his passion continued to grow. He performed as a singer and guitarist, song-writer and self-producer. While living in Rhode Island, Ron befriended a stray dog Bilbo and made him a star! Bilbo would croon, while Ron accompanied on his guitar and harmonica. They performed in coffee shops and in local schools for children.
While his real love is for music, Ron frequently creates acrylic paintings. Many of these works are currently on display in the hallway near the main entrance of UPMC Wellsboro during the months of February and March. Of his art Ron said, “Some of my works are surreal, depicting, say, musical instruments floating in the universe amongst the stars and planets…and most personal to me, are the crosses and other artworks expressing my faith in Christ, my love for God, and my appreciation of His mercy.”
Ron Gennaro Bianco has been the recipient of awards from the Providence Art Club and the East Greenwich Art Association. He has also had numerous showings throughout Rhode Island and southern New England as well as being featured in several newspapers and magazines over the last several decades. Ron shared some advice he once read in a book, “Do what you love and the money will follow,” so he wrote a song called “I’m doing what I love, where’s the money?” While income for artists is a concern, Ron still advises, “To follow your passions.” That’s what it’s about; to find the passion that motivates you, excites you, and brings you healing.
