Laurel Festival 2023 Queen Candidates Preview | Part 1

by Sara Vogt - June 12, 2023

Twenty-seven queen candidates are coming to the Eighty-first Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival to represent their high schools, and one will be coronated On Saturday, June 17th, as the 2023 Laurel Festival Queen. Keep reading this article until the end; all the names will be listed.

I interviewed Miss New Covenant Academy, Esther Allen, and Miss North Penn-Liberty, Jaclyn Nelson, on this broadcast.

Esther recently graduated from New Covenant Academy, where she was a captain of girls’ soccer, basketball, and volleyball teams for three years. She was also a member of the Student Council for three years, being the Vice President her junior year and the President her senior year.

Esther enjoys working with kids and helps in the elementary school twice weekly. She also volunteers twice a week at her church. She helps with tech on Wednesdays and helps in the 2-3-year-olds’ room on Sundays. Esther also enjoys playing board games and spending time with her family.

Her plans for next school year are to attend the OneLife gap year program at Three Springs.

Throughout Jaclyn’s high school career, she gained multiple traits, which included teamwork, hard work, leadership, and patience. All of these traits, combined with her passion for working with children, led her to the field of education. After graduation, she plans to attend Messiah University to pursue a degree in early childhood education.

While attending North Penn – Liberty High School, she participated in Student Council, Big Buddy, Steam Team, National Honor Society, and Key Club. She also played in the band and sang in the chorus. Her athletic pursuits were soccer, basketball, and track. She devoted some of her time to teaching in the elementary basketball program.

Two honors bestowed upon her were North Penn-Liberty Youth Leader of the Year and selected to play for the District and Region Band.

She was also very active in her community by volunteering at her local church, teaching preschool classes, and Liberty’s Vacation Bible School.
