Lady Warriors fall in D4 finals
WILLIAMSPORT — The Canton Lady Warriors fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 10-2 loss to Bucktail on Tuesday, May 30 in the D4 finals.
Bucktail scored on a single by Eva Sockman and a single by Makenna Stone in the first inning.
Canton struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Bucktail, giving up ten runs.
Bucktail opened up scoring in the first inning. Sockman singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
Then Bucktail scored six runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for Bucktail came thanks to a triple by Haley Burrows, a groundout by Makenzie Wagner, a fielder’s choice by Matti Mason, and a double by Lola English.
Wagner was credited with the victory for Bucktail. Wagner went seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out eight.
Keri Wesneski took the loss for Canton. The hurler surrendered ten runs on ten hits over six innings, striking out seven.
Molly Ward, Allyson Butcher, Madison Hulbert, and Wesneski all had one hit to lead Canton.
The Lady Warriors plated a clean game with no errors in the field. Butcher had ten chances in the field, the most on the team.
Bucktail racked up ten hits in the game. Burrows and Wagner all collected multiple hits for Bucktail. Burrows went 3-for-4 at the plate in the win.
