Lady Hornets top Mounties in OT
It was another nail-biter last night as the Lady Hornets basketball team hosted the Lady Mounties – going into overtime!
The Lady Hornets started the scoring a few minutes in, off a pass from Chloe Brandenburg to Maddy Mascho who put it up for two. After another basket from the Hornets, the Mounties got on the board as Kaylee Graham found Kendall Graham wide open for the jumper. By the end of the quarter the Mounties were up, 8-6.
Second quarter, Wellsboro pulled ahead early, clutching back-to-back threes: the first from Brandenburg, followed by Mascho. The Mounties’ Haley Litzelman fired back with her own three pointer, to tie them up in the middle of the quarter. However, the Hornets kept the pressure on and finished the half on top, 22-14.
The Lady Mounties came out of the locker room with a fire in their bellies, putting up eleven points to Wellsboro’s four – ending the third quarter trailing by only one point, 26-25.
Fourth quarter, both teams were hungry for the win and came out chomping at the bit. The Mounties found Tierney Patterson wide open at the top of the key for easy buckets. Later, Wellsboro’s Paige Logsdon found big positioning in the paint – grabbing her own rebound and putting it back up for two. As the clock ran out, both teams were tied up 32-32.
During overtime, Lady Hornet Logsdon won a jump shot early, launching Wellsboro’s momentum. The Hornets put up 6 more unanswered points in overtime to secure their victory, with a final score: 40-32.
The Lady Hornets will be hosting the Athens Wildcats on Friday, while the Lady Mounties host the Cowanesque Valley Indians.
