Lady Hornets fall to Sayre after hard fought rally
On Thursday, May 16 the Wellsboro Lady Hornets softball team hosted the Sayre Lady Redskins in a double header on senior night.
Here’s what happened in game one of Wellsboro vs Sayre. The Redskins dominated the game up to the fifth inning, scoring a total of 11 uncontested runs, including 9 in that inning alone.
However, the Lady Hornets would not give up. In the bottom of the same inning, Paige Logsdon fired a dinger out of the park, bringing in Kieleigh Hoover and Abby Owlett, making the score 11-3 – boosting the Hornets’ morale.
Then at the bottom of the sixth, Wellsboro continued to climb their way back up the scoreboard as Madelynn Losinger sees her opportunity and steals home.
Moments later, Bailee Confer made it across home plate as Harleigh Cleveland barrels down the first base line.
And Mazie Johnson scores off a Kieleigh Hoover RBI.
Finally, at the bottom of the seventh, Johnson at bat – pops one to second base to bring home Caralyn Warner.
Despite their hard fought efforts, the Redskins lead proved too steep, giving Sayre the victory 11-7.
Sayre also ended up taking the second game 15-2.
