Voting is an important right in our society that provides a platform for us as American citizens to voice our opinion in how our government operates. When voting, it is important to review the candidates because essentially it is our voice that influences the fundamental systems in our community, state, and nation!

However the thought of the upcoming election in November is a bit stressful for some people as they are concerned about election day and how they will make it out to the polls. Some individuals may feel like they are unable to vote because of certain inconveniences. Fortunately there is another option! Absentee ballots allow voters to receive ballots via mail, and then send in their vote compared to physically voting at the voting booth/poll! The absentee ballot is beneficial for voters that will not be present on election day, or that are simply too busy!

Many of you may be wondering how to go about getting an absentee ballot! Here are a few simple steps. First, you can visit these websites by going online to: Votes.com, Tiogacountypa.us, or Vote.org. Each website has navigation to the absentee application where you can fill out the information on the application accordingly. Keep in mind that voters must provide their PA Driver’s License number or PennDOT issued Pennsylvania photo identification card (PennDOT photo ID) number in blocks provided. If you aren’t able to provide a driver’s license number or PennDOT photo ID, you must provide the last four digits of your Social Security Number when applying for an absentee ballot. After completing the application, print it. There are also blank applications that can be filled out after being printed. Be sure to sign the form, this is very important!

When you have completed the application you can mail or hand deliver your application to your local election official. In Tioga county the local election official is Penny Whipple. You can reach Penny by phone at (570) 723-8230, or by her office address at the Tioga County Courthouse 118 Main Street Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. Then, simply wait for the ballot to arrive. When you have completed the ballot, mail it back to your local election official.

The deadline for the absentee ballot applications are the Tuesday before the election. The voting ballot deadline is by 5:00 p.m. on Friday before the election. If hand delivering, the voter themselves may be the only individual to return their ballot. We are blessed to live in a great nation that allows us the right to vote!
