Kids Broadcasting Day at Peggy’s!

by John Vogt - August 6, 2018

This past Saturday, August 4, 2018, was KIDS BROADCASTING DAY at Peggy’s Candies and Bake Shoppe. The kids had the opportunity to experience both sides of the mic by interviewing a number of (VIPs) very important people as well as being interviewed themselves.

There were lots of giggles, prizes for new upcoming broadcasters, and free ice cream compliments of Peggy’s. Kids had the opportunity to read the teleprompter, deliver commercials on camera, interview guests, and yes, eat their fill of candy if mom and dad would let them.

One of our bright and effervescent young broadcasters enjoyed a sit down visit with Wellsboro’s Mayor, John Wheeler. Using her highly skilled interview techniques, she was able to get some highly classified information out to our Home Page audience. For example, we now know Mayor Wheeler’s favorite food.

We also found out how Officer Philip Deveney stays in shape, and what Officer Jeremy Cook’s favorite thing is about being a policeman. One of our best, young broadcasters was able to persuade Home Page Sports Director, Ed Weaver, to disclose his favorite movie. And another upcoming anchor/correspondent disclosed that Peggy’s has TONS of candy. Fake news? We don’t think so. When Senior Home Page staff members rushed in to vet these claims, it sure looked like tons of candy. So we are giving our new broadcaster the benefit of the doubt.

One of the most exciting stories of the day happened when Home Page came across four adopted girls from China. All four of these young ladies are thirteen years old and were adopted from China on the same day. They get together every year at this same time in different parts of the country to celebrate their adoption together. This year, they decided on Wellsboro, PA as their unique destination and ended up joining us for KIDS BROADCASTING DAY at Peggy’s Candies and Bake Shoppe.

Special thanks to Chief Jim Bodine and the Wellsboro Police Department, Mayor John Wheeler, Pennsylvania State Representative Clint Owlett, Mary Jarreau and all the staff at Peggy’s, Home Page staff, and all the kids and their parents who participated in KIDS BROADCASTING DAY at Peggy’s.
