Janessa Davis Honored
On September 2, 2020, former Home Page Network correspondent and Wellsboro Area High School Graduate Janessa Davis was one of four students to receive the Barnabas Award from Houghton College in Houghton, NY.
Janessa was named Female Athlete of the Year at the Wellsboro Athletic Department and the Wellsboro Hornets Sports Booster Club’s annual athletic awards presentation in 2017.
Janessa Davis went on to play on the women’s basketball team at Houghton College for three years.
During her High School years Janessa also worked at The Home Page Network as an Anchor/Correspondent. Janessa covered everything from agriculture to sports.
Houghton College Dean of Students, Marc Smithers, presented this year’s student Barnabas awards and said this, “the Barnabas Award recognizes juniors and seniors who have left an indelible Christ, honoring legacy through their work. I have the honor to recognize these talented students and their ministries and leadership and community service.
Janessa Davis is a senior inclusive Childhood Education major from Wellsboro, Pennsylvania; she is the daughter of John and Jennifer Davis. Janessa has been involved in a number of different activities and ministries throughout her time at Houghton College. She was part of the student ministry team in 2019 and was exemplary in her leadership, personal character, and example.
Her nominator wrote that “A denominational leader for The Salvation Army observed her leading an exercise with families at Long Point Camp, and was struck by her skill, competence, and gracefulness. After seeing her in action, the denominational leader asked who she was, and when he learned that she was a Houghton College student, her example became a story shared often at that camp to describe not only her character but the character of Houghton College students as a whole.” Janessa also played on the women’s basketball team for three years. Janessa is someone who will do whatever is needed, whenever it is needed, with a great attitude, and with a cheerful heart as unto the Lord. She embodies everything Houghton talks about when describing scholar servants. Congratulations, Janessa!”
Janessa’s future plans include a wedding on December 19, 2020. John and Jennifer Davis have recently announced the engagement of their daughter, Janessa, to Colin Kloc, son of Christopher and Cheryl Kloc of Olean, NY. Colin is a graduate of Houghton College and is currently employed by the Olean Fire Department.
On behalf of all of us here at The Home Page Network – congratulations Janessa and Colin!
