Introducing Northern Tier Spice Co.

by Lauren Gooch - September 29, 2020

The Northern Tier Spice Company features many gift items as well as organic coffee, tea, and spices. The owner, Ralaine Mundis, has always wanted to open up a spice shop, and now this dream has become a reality! All of the coffee beans, loose teas, and spices are sustainably harvested, fair trade, and organic, meaning that there are no pesticides used. The hot/cold cups and lids at the shop are compostable, and customers are allowed to bring their own glass jars (washed and dried) to put the spices in. To reduce waste, customers are able to buy only the amount of spices they need rather than buying a full jar and then wasting it.

“When coffee beans, teas, and spices are organic, the land is being taken care of properly,” Ralaine says. “The farmers are being taken care of properly, and then we as consumers need to take care of it properly on our end – reducing waste, being mindful of the environment, and being mindful of our carbon footprint.”

In addition to these drinks, the shop also carries local produce, candy, and gift items. They feature local artisans, such as Smith Woodworking, handmade soaps, hand-poured soy candles, and leather earrings. They also support efforts that will help women in Uganda, such as jewelry these women made from hand-painted rolled paper.
