Inside the Student Council

by Jessica Smith, Chloe Quimby - October 1, 2015

Today Homepage correspondent and Wellsboro High School Student Council President Jessica Smith met with some of the Student Council officers to ask about their leadership roles within the Council.

The Council’s secretary, Lizzie Poirier, is responsible for the meetings’ agendas as well as taking and distributing minutes to all members. Maxwell Johnson, the vice president, is responsible for the overall climate of the Council and assists the president as needed. Luna Alexander serves as the Council’s treasurer. Alexander’s primary duty is handling the money within the Student Council account. District Conference President Darci Warriner bears the responsibility of planning the District 7 District Conference. She explains, “District Conference is when schools from around our area come to our school and join in in leadership activities. [This year] we’ll have a speaker from Canada named Andy Thibodeau.”

Each officer also commented on an event he or she anticipated enjoying during the 2015/2016 school year. Vice President Maxwell Johnson chimed in, “I’m looking forward to having our own Homecoming student council float, which will feature Superman.” Other much awaited events included “Support the Hornets” nights, all that Homecoming entails, and hosting the District 7 District Conference.
