Hornet Happenings – Connect 4 Program

by Jessica Smith - June 10, 2016

Today on Hornet Happenings, WHP correspondents Maddy Sweet and Jessica Smith meet up with some of the members of Connect 4 to talk about their work within Wellsboro High School. (Many thanks to participating Connect 4 members Abby Feil, Grace Feil, Janessa Davis, David Straniere, Hope Wilkinson, and Bryon Callahan!)

Connect 4 is a student-run organization that focuses on helping students within the school and promoting a good school climate. Connect 4 offers services such as giving new students personal tours of the school to help them find their way around the high school and adjust to the new setting. The organization also promotes an anti-bullying initiative called STING (S-speak appropriately, T-think positively, I-inspire others, N-notice actions, G-go Hornets!), with a STING week at the high school. STING week provides daily activities relating to each topic of STING. In addition, Connectors act as the eyes and ears of the school in order to offer help to all students.

Connect 4 members also volunteer at a variety of school events. Connect 4 hosts a bake sale to help raise money for the school during the Casey L. Patrick Memorial Basketball Game in March. At Move-Up Day, the last day of school, Connect 4 facilitates the incoming freshman class touring the school and meeting their new teachers. Additionally, Connect 4 helps out at Freshman and New Student Orientation is in August. (Parents and students are welcome to attend!) As part of orientation, Mr. Kreger and the Connectors will discuss the rules of the high school and answer any questions. Stay tuned for more information on the Freshman and New Student Orientation night.
