Helicopter Drops 150 Golf Balls!
The first annual Ball Drop is not your typical fundraiser! The rules are simple: Community members purchase a golf ball for $100. Then, the balls are dropped out of a helicopter. The closest one to the hole wins $5,000. Congratulations to this year’s winner, Charles Newlin!
The proceeds benefit two great organizations. The first is The Wellsboro Foundation, which puts on Wellsboro’s famous Laurel Festival. The second is the Tyoga Country Club, and the money will be used toward course improvements.
The idea was inspired by a similar event for the Philadelphia Ronald Mcdonald House. Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Julie VanNess, saw an advertisement for it and loved the idea. She then began making plans to bring this event to Wellsboro.
The Ball Drop took place on Saturday, September 7th, at the Tyoga County Club. Attendees were able to enjoy food, drinks, and live music. Approximately 150 balls were dropped during this event.
We truly appreciate all who contributed to this event!
Special thanks to:
Huff Builders in Corning for providing the helicopter (607-725-1994)
UPMC Susquehanna for sponsoring the event
The committee members who organized the event
Those who purchased a golf ball or attended the event
