Great Local Places To Enjoy “National Great Outdoors Month”

by Dusty Owen - June 9, 2023

June is National Great Outdoors Month. Put into effect by President Bill Clinton in 1998. The major goal was to create jobs and the country’s GDP by encouraging people to enjoy and respect nature. The week became so popular that it was extended to the entire month of June for the next few decades, beginning with President Bush’s administration and continuing through President Obama’s, Trump’s, and now Biden’s administrations. The Outdoor Recreation Jobs and Economic Impact Act of 2016 was passed to research America’s outdoor recreation industry. According to the research, outdoor recreation contributed more than $412 billion to the economy or 2.2% of total GDP. According to the research, outdoor recreation had the greatest growth of any business in 2016, creating 4.5 million jobs.

How can you honor National Great Outdoors Month?
