Friends Raise Funds for Green Home Tech

Friends of Soldiers + Sailors launches campaign for Green Home

by UPMC Susquehanna - November 22, 2019

With the holiday season right around the corner, Friends of Soldiers + Sailors has a lot to be grateful for — especially the dedicated support of donors who are turning dreams of cutting-edge health care technology into reality right here in Tioga County.

Friends of Soldiers + Sailors is an annual fundraising campaign lead by the Susquehanna Health Foundation. They share a special commitment to UPMC Susquehanna through an annual, tax-deductible membership gift of $100 or more. Membership funds are used to purchase vital equipment and expand community health programs. Examples include:
– Baby warmers for the obstetrics unit
– Ultrasound equipment
– Blanket warmers
– Blood glucose testing machine
– Glidescope for the emergency department
– Equipment for women’s health and physical therapy team
– Operating table for Surgical Services

UPMC Senior Communities staff provide quality care at The Green Home in Wellsboro, helping patients receive the services and care they need close to home. With the help of community donations from this year’s campaign, Friends of Soldiers + Sailors plans to purchase It’s Never 2 Late (iN2L) to support expansion of the resident’s daily activities and enhance their overall quality of life—both mentally and physically.

The Green Home plays an important role in our community by caring for an aging population, post-surgery patients going through rehabilitation, and individuals with dementia. They currently have 120 residents who will benefit from the system. iN2L, or It’s Never 2 Late, combines touch screen computers with intuitive, picture-based software and an extensive, continually updated content library to provide a personalized experience for each resident. It can be utilized for restorative therapy, family interaction, or leisure purposes, as well as in group settings or one-on-one. It’s easy to use and is designed for residents of all abilities. It helps the personnel at The Green Home to engage with residents in new ways by improving socialization, quality of life, and helping them communicate in new ways.

The Friends of Soldiers + Sailors Committee encourages everyone to join in giving thanks by giving back. Again, this campaign is a special commitment to UPMC Susquehanna through an annual, tax-deductible membership gift of $100 or more. The goal of the campaign is $38,000 for the purchase a customizable and mobile system. Thanks to Citizens & Northern Bank, your donation can go further as they provide $4,500 in matching funds toward the campaign.

To join Friends of , call Susquehanna Health Foundation at 1-888-322-0945 or visit UPMCSusquehanna.org/Donate. Checks can be made payable to Susquehanna Health Foundation, with memo of “Friends” and mailed to UPMC Susquehanna Soldiers + Sailors, 32-36 Central Avenue, Wellsboro, PA 16901.
