Family Day & Children’s Health Fair Highlights
In our busy lives, it can sometimes be hard for us to take time out of our hectic schedules for those who mean the most to us. Events like Family Day & The Children’s Health Fair, which took place on Saturday, June 11, provide opportunities for us to spend time with our family and friends, while showing us fun ways to stay healthy together.
The community gathered on the Green for FREE games, music, giveaways, and healthy snacks. Children of all ages enjoyed playing a variety of instruments, sitting in an official Wellsboro Fire Department firetruck, and even jumping in a bouncy house! There was also free face painting, balloon animals, bubbles, crafts, Frisbees, jump ropes, playground balls, and bike helmets. The helmets were properly fitted to each child before they received them. Officer Warren reminds us that it is a State Law in Pennsylvania for all children under the age of 12 to wear a helmet while they ride their bike. The Wellsboro Fire Department handed out free firemen’s hats and even gave children the opportunity to sit inside one of their firetrucks. We were even visited by special guests, Smokey Bear and Bobber the Water Safety dog, to gain some helpful tips on staying safe this summer. Brian Plume cautions us to be aware of our surroundings to prevent wildfires. Park Ranger Tyler Upham advises us to always wear a life jacket while around water, and to make sure it is fitted correctly. Remember to always swim with a friend!
A special thanks to Family Day’s sponsors: Susquehanna Health, Wellsboro Pediatric Healthcare Associates, Etner Foundation, Wellsboro Montessori Children’s Center, Wellsboro Veterans Administration, Wellsboro Foundation, Tioga County Partnership for Community Health, Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce, and Pepsi Company.
We encourage all of our Home Page viewers to continue to support fun, family events in the community, and to participate in all of the excitement that the Laurel Festival has to offer. For a complete listing of Laurel Festival events in 2016, click here. We hope to see you there!
