Fall Favorites: Apple Cider
It’s fall! Which means leaves are changing and time for fall foods! I’m talking pumpkin… sweet potato…. pears, cranberries, and apples!
The great thing about the bright yellow-orange varieties of squash, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin, is that they contain beta-carotene, which is a provitamin A carotenoid. Carotenoids act as antioxidants. These are substances that may prevent or delay some types of cell damage. You know what else is especially rich in antioxidants? Apples! Do you know the difference between cider and apple juice? Apple juice is filtered to remove solids, and it is pasteurized so stays fresh longer. Because fresh Cider has not been filtered, it needs to be stored in the refrigerator. We have a variety of apples grown, locally. On today’s broadcast, we will visit a local, family-owned apple cider mill where they make the good stuff!
Because apple cider is not filtered or purified to remove the solids, it contains all that nutritious pulp. Studies have shown that Apple Cider contains more than five times more healthful antioxidants than clear apple juice. You can find this delicious and healthy fall treat right here in Tioga County at Case’s Mansfield Cider Mill. That’s where they make REAL APPLE CIDER that has stood the test of time. Case’s Apple Cider has been loved for generations.
