Fair – Family – Fun!
The 53rd Tioga County Fair festivities began Sunday night with the crowning of the 2019 Fair Queen, Kailyn Judlin. Sitting alongside Kailyn was her first alternate Kendra Smeltz and second alternate Nina Coolidge. These ladies will have many responsibilities while representing their fair during the week and throughout the coming year.
In this broadcast Home Page Correspondent, Ashayla Faulkner spoke with Kailyn about her desire to represent her fair.
Family is one of the keywords describing those who are exhibiting at the Tioga County Fair. Many work, sleep, eat, vacation, and celebrate birthdays and anniversaries at the fair.
One of those anniversaries occurred on August 5th for Carol and Clair Zerby, their 57th! They met at a beef barn at Penn State and were married at their Luthern Church in Lancaster County. They have lived here in Tioga County for the past fifty years. During that time Clair was a director for the fair for many years and one of those years he was also President of the Tioga County Fair Board. In his eighties, he and his wife Carol have forty sheep and eight cows and still contribute to the fair.
Judy (married to Jeff Quick) is the child of Carol and Clair Zerby. She is also the Sheep Barn Chairperson. She is continually encouraging and supporting exhibitors.
Right now there are 89 sheep enjoying there time at the fair in that sheep barn.
Jeff also assists Judy in the duties of the barn and is currently President of the Tioga County Fair Board. He also does maintenance for the fairgrounds throughout the year.
Judy brought her sheep named Hank, born on her birthday (February 18th) to show at the fair.
Janna and Jesse are the daughters of Judy and Jeff Quick who are carrying on the family tradition of exhibiting at the fair. Janna is in FFA at Cownesque Valley High School and the sheep pictured in the broadcast is named Flash who is part of the Suffolk breed.
One of Jesse’s Suffolks is named Axel is also pictured in the broadcast.
Wednesday is Family Day at the Fair with FREE Admission for children up to 11 years old until 5:00 pm with $3.00 for Unlimited Amusement Rides for Children 36 inches & over.
