Erick Coolidge To Conclude Career As Commissioner After 28 Years
Before being elected, Erick Coolidge worked with his family on their dairy farm, located south of Wellsboro just off of Rte. 287 in Coolidge Hollow.
He has been representing the county as a commissioner for 28 years. In 2023, Erick decided not to run again, retiring from the position.
“I feel…it’s right for me to step away. The only thing, I hope, is that whomever, now or in the future, serves in this role, [will] care for the county,” said Coolidge. “I am grateful for all the privileges I’ve had to be in this capacity. I love the community I live in. I love this county.”
His interest in local government was driven by being discouraged and frustrated by those holding office and the manner they interacted with State leaders. “We can do better!”
A memory he cherishes yet today was the honor extended to him to serve as Chairman of the late Honorable Judge Robert E. Dalton’s campaign. That experience led to his being elected for Chairman of the Tioga County Republican Party; a position he held for a number of years. Coolidge gained a greater understanding of what would be required of the next level of public service.
As time moved forward, Erick Coolidge was invited to run for the position of commissioner.
“It was quite competitive. I believe there were 15 or so candidates the first year,” said Coolidge. “I was successful at that point, and I would say humbled to have been successful for seven terms.”
Over the years he has watched leaders in the communities across the county, and there are many examples of unselfish individuals who, by example, show through their commitment how to serve others.
Tioga County is blessed to have many public servants who don’t seek recognition or have an agenda, but rather find a way to help each other and make our county, and home, a better place.
“I simply wanted to be a part of that!”
