Earth Day at Mill Cove Returns For Successful Weekend

by Dusty Owen - April 24, 2023

MANSFIELD, PA — For the first time since 2019, Earth Day events returned to Mill Cove on Saturday, April 22. The COVID Pandemic halted many events and people’s lives for far longer than anyone could have predicted. After a long wait and the tireless efforts of a large number of volunteers, Earth Day at Mill Cove was once again in full swing.

The public was welcome to attend the event for free, and a shuttle service from Mansfield University to Mill Cove was also offered free of charge. The Earth Day activities attracted more than a thousand attendees. In addition to a variety of exhibitors selling beverages and mementos, there were educational booths set up to help attendees understand the need of protecting this gorgeous world on which we live.

During a quick conversation, Lee Stocks and Dina Henniger, the event coordinator, both remarked how happy they were with the attendance and the planning of many more upcoming events.

Why is Earth Day Important?

“Earth Day reminds us that, regardless of our differences, we all have one major thing in common: the planet we live on. We share the need and necessity for all of us to get together and spend our time and efforts in the struggle to keep it clean and safe, for all current and future residents, before too much harm and destruction occurs. Some argue that the damage has been done and that there is no chance. Many people, including myself, disagree. If we can all learn and teach the value of conservation to future generations, our future will be much brighter.” – Dusty Owen
