Dickens Is Coming, New Attraction!

by Sara Vogt - November 26, 2019

This is the 36th year that the community of Wellsboro will be celebrating a Dickens of A Christmas! The day of the celebration takes place on December 7th from early morning into the starry night.

Wellsboro’s gaslit streets lined with Christmas trees and wreaths welcome those far and near. A step back into time to enjoy friends and family while viewing Victorian dress of the 1800’s worn by many.

On this broadcast, Home Page Vice President, Sara Vogt talks with Julie VanNess, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce about a new attraction at the Deane Center for all to see. This new attraction is a Department 56 village donated by Jean Balko. Jean had been collecting and enjoying the houses for years. She referred to them as her babies! When she decided to donate the houses she wanted to keep the collection together so she googled Dickens because her collection was from the Dickens period. The first thing that came up in that search was Dickens of A Christmas here in Wellsboro. The display will be in the window at the Deane Center until after New Years Day.

Many activities happen on this Victorian fun, family filled day such as plays, choruses, tours, luncheons, craft and food vendors and then ending with the lighting of the beautiful Christmas tree.
