Craig Route, a 6th grade teacher at Canton Elementary and host of Coaches Corner on the Home Page Network, brings a unique experience to his students by way of a hunter safety course through the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Craig has been the 6th grade teacher at Canton since 1994. His predecessor, Mr. Jim Campbell, taught the hunter safety course for over 40 years and Craig promised him he would continue this class. Craig is certified through the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Craig brings his own unique twist to the class, teaching not only hunter safety, but first aid. He instructs his students on how to properly use firearms, why we kill animals in Pennsylvania for control of the populations with various different species.

Recently, the Pennsylvania Game Commission held a dinner and Craig was recognized for his 25 years of service teaching the hunters’ safety course.

“Canton may be the only school district in the state left teaching this class to its students,” said Craig.
