COVID-19 Update with Mayor Nickerson
Tioga County’s communities have done a remarkable job of working together to keep our residents safe. Mayor Shane Nickerson and the people of Blossburg are no exception. They have maintained a proactive, positive approach the challenges that have arisen in this crisis, and Mayor Nickerson wants to share their outlook with all of his neighbors.
“Before anything, we need to stay positive. We cannot let fear get the best of us. You know we have to keep our minds, our hearts, right. Surround yourself with positive people. If I’m going to rely on the state or federal government to control my happiness, guess what? It’s not gonna happen. If I focus on my own mindset and how I can to contribute to the happiness of others… I’m going to be have a attitude of gratitude,” said Nickerson.
The Blossburg community has also been endeavoring to filter the evaluate the information they pass around.
“The other thing we wanted to do is make sure that we had a way of giving out credible information. There’s so much misinformation out there right now,” said Nickerson. “We wanted to put out stuff that we knew was factual, even though we don’t know everything. There are a lot of unknowns. But we wanted to focus on what we CAN do.”
Finally, Mayor Nickerson shared a story about his time in Japan as the COVID-19 crisis first began and how it shaped his view on wearing masks. We encourage our Home Page viewers to watch and consider his perspective and experience.
