Come to the Blossburg State Coal Festival, May 26-27

by Sara Vogt - May 24, 2023

The 31st Blossburg State Coal Festival is this weekend in Blossburg, PA. This family-friendly weekend begins on Friday, May 26th, at 5:00 p.m. and ends on Saturday, May 27th night with Fireworks at 9:00 p.m.

Blossburg’s Mayor, Shane Nickerson, expressed his appreciation for those who labored in the coal mines to bring energy and life to the community. He stressed the difficulty of the job of those who did the mine work – hard, intensive work. Celebrating this weekend reminds us all of this community’s rich heritage.

On Friday at 5:30 p.m., come for some fun at the bounce houses! At 6:00 p.m., Prince and Princess Pagent, 7:00 p.m. Blues Brothers Tribute. And they are wrapping it up at 8:00 p.m. with a VERY LARGE bonfire. Come dressed warm with a blanket!

On Saturday, activities begin at 9:00 a.m. going to 9:00 p.m., such as a quilt show and sale, bike games, duck race, live entertainment, chicken barbeque, and toddler obstacle course, to name a few.

For the complete list, please visit their Facebook page or visit their website at http://www.coalfestival.com.

A note from history from the Blossburg State Coal Festival website:
The first Coal Festival was held Memorial Day weekend in 1993, 201 years after coal was discovered in Blossburg. The Coal Festival commemorates Blossburg and the surrounding area’s rich mining history and the diversity of our ancestors. In 1792 coal was found in the Blossburg area during the building of Williamson Road. Coal quickly became a valuable resource that brought many people to the area to work in the local coal mines. Many of the towns in our area were created because of the mining that took place. Although mining no longer occurs in the area, we honor our history and heritage with the annual Coal Festival.
