Come Enjoy A Free Night of Swing
WELLSBORO – This Saturday, December 10th, at 7:00 pm, come to the Deane Center in Wellsboro for a free night of Swing sponsored by the Home Page Network and Christine A. Moore Millinery of New York City.
The Starliters Big Band will be playing the wonderful swing songs of the 1940s to coincide with the Christmas On Main Street Weekend theme.
Dr. Rick Doganiero, a band member, stopped into the Home Page studios to share about the music they will be playing that evening. They will perform songs from Glen Miller Orchestra, Ellington Orchestra, and others.
When I asked Dr. Doganiero what makes big bands so special, he answered, ” Big bands are like the symphony orchestra of Jazz. You get the energy of sixteen musicians, and in our case, we have two singers who formerly sang with the Glen Miller Orchestra in the 1980s.”
And, of course, Christmas music is an excellent addition to the musical selections. Many of our favorite classic songs were written in the 1940s, such as I’ll Be Home for Christmas, Let It Snow, Winter Wonderland, and Sleigh Ride.
Please join us for the Night of Swing to spend time on the dance floor or sit and enjoy the big band sound.
