Carve, Paint & Roast This Fall!

by Lauren Gooch - October 5, 2020

What’s your favorite thing to do during the fall with pumpkins? Carve them? Roast the seeds? Paint them?

Julianna and Lauren, the crafters at Home Page, decided to take painting to another level – painting with eggshells! Since July, Lauren’s dad had been saving eggshells from the eggs they eat during breakfast. He cracked a small hole at the top of the eggshells, got the eggs out, rinsed the shells with water, and let them dry upside down for 24 hours. With these eggshells, Lauren and Julianna then filled the eggshells with paint (about 25% full). Then, they threw the eggs at the pumpkins to splatter paint them! Be sure to wear clothes you don’t mind getting paint on – it can splatter very far! It was such a fun activity, and could even count as art class for any child being homeschooled right now! Click here to see where our inspiration for this idea came from.

When carving pumpkins, don’t throw away the seeds! They are a delicious, healthy, and flavorful snack. We separated ours into three separate batches so we could flavor them all differently. The flavorings we chose from this recipe were: Classic, Sweet, and Italian. All were delicious! We baked ours for around 24 minutes rather than 20 minutes to get them a little crispier.

We know there are many places to get pumpkins, so we encourage you to support a local place in your town! Our pumpkins are from Rockberry Farms located at 231 Dartt Settlement Road in Wellsboro. They offer pumpkins of all sizes in a convenient curbside stand. Contact information for Rockberry Farms is listed below.
