Canton Warriors Shutout Sayre, 42-0

by Craig Route - August 28, 2023

The Canton Warriors hosted the Sayre Redskins Friday night at Miller A. Moyer Field and walked away with a shutout, 42-0.

On the opening kickoff senior Hudson Ward showed that the Warriors still have playmakers as he avoided tacklers and returned the kick to the Redskins twenty yard line. Two plays later Ward took an option pitch from Ben Fitch fifteen yards to the house, giving Canton an early lead.

After three plays on defense, younger brother Holden Ward tried to get in on the scoring action as he ran back a punt 75 yards to the endzone. Hower and offsides penalty negated the TD and gave the ball back to Sayre.

The Redskins then went to the air completing key passes to Nick Pellicano driving the ball to Canton’s one yard line. However, the warriors defense held up as they recovered a fumble.

From there the Warriors went the length of the field finishing the drive with a 38 yard touchdown pass from Fitch to Zack Colton.

Ben Fitch would add two more rushing touchdowns to end the half, breaking tackles on the second, and sending the Warriors to halftime with a 27-0 lead.

On Canton’s first possession of the second half it only took one play for Fitch to connect with Hudson Ward for another Warrior touchdown.

Michael Davis’s pass rush lifted the Canton Warrior defense in the second half as he was constantly bringing pressure throughout the game picking up 3 sacks on the night

Hudson Ward scored three different ways in the game as he added a safety in the third quarter putting the game into the mercy rule, creating a running clock.

Ben Fitch found the endzone one more time on the night scampering 23 yards for the score.

Alexis McRoberts added the final point of the night with an extra point kick. She was 4 for 6 kicking extra points for the game.

The Canton Warriors will return to action when they host the North Penn Panthers on Friday September 1st at 7:00 PM.
