Canton Warriors shutout Black Knights, 40-0

by Wyatt Wood - September 18, 2023

On Saturday, September 16 the Canton Warriors hosted the Towanda Black Knights and held them to a shutout victory, 40-0.

Two drives into the first quarter, Canton’s Hudson Ward grabbed a bobbled pass off the receivers hands, giving the warriors the ball for the first time of the night on their own 23 yard line. The Canton Warriors then forced the Black Knights’ back to punt, and with a bad snap, Canton’s Zach Colton put the punter down – getting the Warriors the turnover on Towanda’s 35 yard line. After another botched snap and a flag the first quarter ended 0-0 with Canton deep in Black Knight territory.

In the second quarter the Warriors finally found their way to the end zone as Micheal Davis smashed up the middle for a touchdown. The Warriors the kick was no good, making the opening score 6-0.

Midway through the second quarter, from Canton’s own 44 yard line, Davis with the deadly screen swung outside and received the ball and ran 56 yards to the house! After Alexis Mcrobert’s kick, the score was 13-0 Warriors.

With seven minutes left in the half Canton’s Ben Fitch called his own number, scrambled his way outside, upfield and said peace to the defense – making it 20-0.

2 minutes and 30 seconds remaining in the second quarter, with an inside handoff – Davis made his move in the secondary for another Warrior touchdown. 26-0 Canton after the extra point.

But Canton was not done with the half yet. With only 30 seconds left, Davis found the end zone one more time smashing through the Black Knights defense, 33-0.

The third quarter was a major defensive battle for both teams, neither offense finding the end zone.

Fourth quarter, Canton’s Holcomb found the end zone again for one final touchdown with 8 minutes left. The Warriors held the Black Knights for the last 8 minutes, securing the shutout victory.

Canton is on the road this week, playing in South Williamsport on Friday.
