By the Door: Lift My Eyes to the Hills

by Glen Hallead - October 10, 2023

Autumn means “Leaf Peepers” in our area of the country- tourists who come to “lift their eyes to the hills” to witness the majesty of God’s paint brush. And it is in that vain that I am reminded one of the songs the Israelites would sing as they ascended the mountain paths leading to Jerusalem for one of the three annual festivals.

I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth. [Psalm 121:1-2]

I think of this Psalm often as I turn up the road to our mountain home.

It is a song or (psalm) of praise reflecting on the majesty of God’s creation..a creation which includes mankind as the highest order of creation as we find proclaimed in Psalm 8.

This month’s By The Door is a reminder that the Lord God Almighty, who simply spoke creation into being, knows you. He knows your name. He created each of us, “a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned us with glory and honor”. Scripture tells us He even knows the numbers of our days, that it is He who knit us together in our mother’s womb.

Are you worried about something today? Is there something weighing heavily on your mind? An inconsolable sadness, an agonizing fear? Take heart, though we may not fully understand or appreciate how it all works, we are assured that all things do work together for the good of those who love Him.

In Faith,
