Blossburg – A great place to LIVE!

Blossburg – A great place to LIVE!

by Tonya McNamara - January 27, 2022

Blossburg Borough – located just off US Route 15, Exit 172 is a community you will want to consider when looking for a home within Tioga County.

Even though the Borough just celebrated its 150th year of incorporation it is still going strong!

Formerly a mining and railroad town it is rich in history and traditions from the various ethnic groups that settled the area.

Although many of the homes in the area are older, many have been lovingly updated and many residents take a lot of pride in their homes and the community.

What is available within the Blossburg area? – EVERYTHING – and it is within a 4 -6-hour drive to everywhere else you would need to be like NYC, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Buffalo and Toronto!

Borough employees maintain water, sewer, and garbage services while our local police department keeps us safe.

For a small community, most every amenity you could possibly need is within a square mile or two.

That makes community activities easy to visit by car, bike or on foot – for instance – you can leave your house located within the borough limits and walk to the park and then to get a pizza or ice cream.

You can easily go to the doctor or dentist then walk to the pharmacy to pick up any prescriptions, just a few doors away. Don’t forget to visit our community library to check out a book!

A local grocery store, dollar store and hardware store have all the items you need for the day.

Specialty retail stores such as beauty shops, insurance company, day care, home care assistance and post office fill the gap.

What small communities do you know that still boast a movie theater? A vintage one screen community theater is open and a great place for private rental, movies, and live events.

Gas Stations, beer distributors, lumber companies and one of the area’s largest employers, Ward Manufacturing, are always looking to hire.

Don’t forget Blossburg Elementary School, located in the downtown area with Pre-K thru 6 grades. Who doesn’t want their child to receive a small classroom education?

The best part of Blossburg is “Island Park”. Located off Water Street, Island Park, a 62-acre multi-facility area, was established as the site for community and recreational activities in the Borough of Blossburg in 1910 and has historically served as a focal point for the community.

Community functions such as the annual celebration of the Blossburg State Coal Festival, wedding receptions, reunions, private parties, and picnicking.

Island Park has a great walking path, swimming pool, pavilions, community building, tennis courts, basketball court, Little League field, softball field, hardball field, football field with track, playground, horseshoe pits, and a skate park – a great place for the whole family all year round.

Now you know why Blossburg is a great place to live, work and play – join us!
