Big Hearts at Blossburg Beverage
Welcome to another edition of “Small Town, Big Heart” – featuring another business profile. Blossburg Beverage is another anchor business in the Blossburg Community. On today’s program, Blossburg Mayor Shane Nickerson has the opportunity to talk with owner John Martin and his son Tim Martin about their business.
“It was started in 1933 after the Prohibition,” says owner, John Martin. “I’m the third owner. I bought the place in 1976…I’ve been here a while.”
Blossburg Beverage is involved in both wholesale and retail business, and they draw many customers from outside of the Tioga County area as well. Their broad reach is, like many of the anchor businesses in the area, a big part of Blossburg’s success.
John’s son, Tim Martin, left Tioga County, but was drawn back to Blossburg because of the family atmosphere and tight-knit community.
“Once you have children, it does something with your psyche,” says Tim Martin. “You want your children to grow up around family or in communities that you feel comfortable in.”
This attitude and connection is at the heart of everything Blossburg Beverage does, as they make it a goal to give back to the town. Both John and Tim Martin donate time and energy towards making Blossburg successful. John sits on the Souther Tioga School District board, Tim has a seat on the Blossburg Borough Council, and both love being involved wherever they can.
“We try and give back to the community as much as we can,” John Martin states. “We’re involved in…obviously all the weddings and all the births and all the fun occasions that are in the community. But we also make sure we’re involved in others as well. If somebody needs help…there’s always somebody in Blossburg ready to help.”
