Back to Basics: Christmas Cookies

by Pastor TJ Freeman - December 23, 2020

Do you like Christmas cookies? I love them (maybe a little too much)! Have you ever considered how each unique ingredient combines to make the cookies so good? The right mixture of flour, sugar, butter, and all the rest produces something desirable.

A community has a lot in common with a batch of cookies. Each member of the community contributes to the whole, much like the ingredients in a recipe. But, just as in baking, the wrong ingredients or an improper balance can lead to something less pleasant.

You are an important ingredient your community. You have gifts and talents that, combined with others in the community, help produce a desirable environment. But, it is important to be aware of the contributions you make. 2020 has been a year of great challenge and it would be easy to make negative contributions. Have your thoughts and expressions helped produce an environment that is favorable? You can be secret ingredient that brings out the best flavor and makes all the difference!

As 2020 comes to an end it is especially important to consider how we think and speak. Most of all, it is an opportunity for each of us to look to Christ, whose speech and actions are the greatest example of love and hope. The life of Christ culminated in his sacrificial death on a cross for the sins of men. He died that we might live! May we follow in His footsteps as we die to ourselves to serve those around us. This is the greatest contribution of all.
