The Central PA Food Bank is committed to ending hunger within 27 counties. 20% of households receiving food have at least one member who has served or is currently in the military. The American Legion 572 in Blossburg has teamed up with Central Pennsylvania Food Bank’s MilitaryShare Program to provide free food distribution for active service, veterans and their families in need.

What items are distributed? Each registered family will receive fresh produce, one quart of fresh milk, one dozen eggs and a box of shelf stable pantry staples such as soup, pasta and cereal. Extra snack items are given out depending upon availability. An average of 50 – 75 pounds of food are given out to each family.

Each distribution day is manned with an average of 15 people, most who are veterans or are members of Veteran Service Organizations. Distributions are held the first Tuesday monthly on Island Park Blossburg at the Boro Garage between the hours of 1 pm to 5 pm.

Who is eligible to receive these donations? All Active service members, veterans and their families in need. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Proof of military service, such as a DD214, Military ID or VA Medical Card.

MilitaryShare is also supported with additional funds provided by the American Legion 572and other local Veteran Service Organizations such as VFW’s, and the ” Swing for Vets” golf tournament.

It takes $2500 in donated funds to maintain the Blossburg distribution monthly. Donations are accepted thru the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank online, by mail or by phone. For your donations to go directly to the Blossburg distribution use the account number 480106.
