A School-to-Work Program In Your Community
Looking for a great way to help others? Services provided by Goodwill Industries and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) does exactly that. Our guest today Brittnie Carr (title) shares with us how a Community-Based work assessment (CBWA) works with local youth and local businesses to create a diverse work environment.
The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) and Goodwill offer two important programs to help students get out into the work force in their communities. Juniors and high school seniors can choose to job shadow or consider paid work experience. Through job shadowing, students can receive job skills and knowledge outside of normal school hours. In paid work experience, students are participating in the job they are pursuing. OVR in partnership with Goodwill, work with schools and businesses in Bradford, Sullivan, Tioga, Susquehanna, and Wyoming counties.
Overall they provide over 24,000 service hours and have served nearly 2,500 individuals. OVR helps young adults not only prepare for the workforce but for life after high school.
